Options
Our range of pit props are manufactured from 4mm steel box section, with a 170 x 120mm flat steel plate at both ends. The standard prop length is 2.2 metres, however we also keep the 80x80mm prop in 3 metre lengths. Other lengths are available to order. All pit props are finished in regulation ‘warning’ yellow.

Two box section sizes are available, 50x50mm (safe working load 1800kg) and 80x80mm (safe working load 3000kg). For lift installations, where the clearance between the shaft wall and lift car is limited, we offer the 50x50mm section prop with a smaller top end flat plate of 100x100mm (see fig 25) thus preventing the stored prop from impeding the movement of the lift car.

Function
The prop base slides securely into the floor mounting boot, which is permanently secured to the pit floor (see figs 22, 23). The boot has two 6mm steel strips attached to its underside, facilitating level fixing if the pit floor is uneven. When not in use, the prop is stored in an upright position against the wall, using the wall mounting bracket.

For additional safety, an optional electrical interlock facility is available by means of a pre-fixed limit switch, mounted to the rear of the wall mounting bracket (see figs 21, 26). When the prop is removed from the bracket for use, the lift is immediately rendered electrically inoperative, until the prop is returned to its original position.

All pit props are supplied in a kit format, containing the following:-

  • Pit prop.
  • Wall mounting bracket.
  • Floor mounting boot.
  • ‘Position Pit Prop Before Working’ notice.
  • All relevant fixings.
  • Optional limit switch (for electrically interlocked kits only).

If you require your Non-standard pit prop to have a test certificate you will need to purchase 1 extra for testing.
